Head coach Kim Sang-woo and the Samsung Fire players celebrate.

The Samsung Fire men's professional volleyball team finished the first round of the Dodram V-League atop the standings with a five-game winning streak.

Samsung Fire swept Korea Electric Power 3-0 (28-26 25-21 25-22) in straight sets in their Dodram 2023-2024 V-League home match at Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon on Friday.

With the win, Samsung Fire improved to 5-1, tied with Woori Card, and jumped to the top of the standings in set win percentage. They have now won their last four matches in straight sets by a combined score of 3-0.

KEPCO suffered its third straight loss.

After taking the first set thanks to a deuce from KEPCO's Seo Jae-duk and a block from Kim Jun-woo that prevented a quick opener from Lim Sung-jin, Samsung Fire slowly pushed KEPCO back in the second set with its serve.

Three service aces from Yosvani Hernandez (Yosvani) and Kim Jung-ho (Kim Jung-ho) extended the lead to two points, but Samsung Chemicals took advantage of an unforced error by Tys Dulhos (Tys) and an attack by Lim Sung-jin at the net late in the set to take a 21-17 lead and book the best-of-three match.

Yosvani 'plays hard on defense'

The third set belonged to Yosubani, a powerful fixer.

After scoring back-to-back kills at 17-17, Yosubani followed Seo Jae-duk's attack with a solo effective block at 20-18 and then took a toss from setter Noh Jae-wook for a quick, open attack down the KEPCO court.

Samsung Fire ended the match on 24-22 match point with an attack error by KEPCO middle blocker Shin Young-seok.

Yosubani finished with 25 points, including a service ace and two blocks, to lead the team to its fifth straight win. The Tigers were held to 16 points, including eight unforced errors, as Yosubani took the match.
