Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control,a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

The glue was removed from the cobra's body by putting it in a red bucket and transporting it to a safe location.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

North Carolina. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers,a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

As soon as the cobra was guided into the red bucket, it was moved to a safe location where the glue could be fully removed.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.

After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.

The snake is a zebra cobra and can spit up to nine feet long, making even a morning dog walk a daunting task. In the opinion of the African Snakebite Institute, snakes are very dangerous. An animal's venom could cause the victim's nervous system to shut down.

Someone who is bitten by the poison of a cobra would feel pain, swelling, gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

Cobras of this kind usually do not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.

She is not recommending it for pets, due to its risks.

Sleeping people are more likely to be bitten. Research shows that people who are bit may suffer health issues for years.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.

There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.

There are records in the county that indicate Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at that address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Giffords shows several photos of snakes, which he identifies as being his son's, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on his TikTok account. On one of his posts, he claims to own a 7-foot zebra cobra.
