When washing a Belle Tress wig or hairpiece, always use shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for them. The fiber could be damaged by using other products.
Heat-friendly wigs are made with modacrylic fiber which can tolerate lower amounts of heat than conventional synthetic hair wigs, allowing you to restyle with hot irons or curling tools for a variety of looks. The heat will keep the shape of the wig until it's washed.
To wash a wig you should use a gentle shampoo and conditioner. Regular wig washings are recommended to protect fibers from damage as well as to avoid tangling or frizzing issues from occurring. Washing every 6 to 10 wears will keep the fibers in top condition.
After washing your wig, be sure to use a high-quality detangler such as Jon Renau's HD Smooth Detangler for optimal results. Be mindful when applying detangler, as touching hand tied areas could cause its contents to loosen and come free from their attachment to the lace cap - also avoid brushing too hard near lace as this could cause friction which causes lifting up or tears of the fabric lace cap.
This heat-friendly synthetic hair is already styled and ready to wear. It can however be styled with heat tools such a curling and straightening irons. Its style will last until it is washed or restyled thanks to its heat-friendly fiber. Keep heat tool temperatures at or below 320°F when styling the wig.
Be sure to brush and comb your hair regularly with a wide-tooth comb. This will help maintain the condition of your hair. Avoid over-combing as this can result in loose hairs getting tangled up or frizzing, which could cause tangling. It is also wise to mist damp wigs with light-weight detangler such as Jon Renau's HD Smooth Detangler; just take care not to apply conditioner directly near lace front knotting as this could compromise its integrity resulting in hair loss in that area!
Use a wide-toothed comb, such as this one from Jon Renau, to gently brush your wig before washing it. This will help eliminate any knots or tangles. You should not use conditioner on lace front wigs as it can loosen knotted hairs in the nape of the cap, causing shedding. Instead, spray detangler such as Jon Renau's HD Smooth Mist to mist the wig.
After completing a wash cycle on your wig with a towel, place it onto a wig rack to let it dry naturally. It will prevent the fibers from frizzing up during air drying. Reduce friction with clothing and the skin when styling longer styles, such as a low ponytail.
