Mojang Studios, the makers of the popular Minecraft, is adopting a model from the traditional U.S. anti-drugs playbook, however it appears "Just Say No" is more effective for blockchain-based money making schemes than it did for the use of narcotics.

The studio, owned by Microsoft, wrote on its blog Wednesday that NFTs in Minecraft "are generally not something we allow or support." The company stated that it was changing its Minecraft Usage Guidelines to state that blockchain tech will not be permitted to integrate in the Minecraft game client and can't be used to create NFTs from any game content, be it items, skins or even mods.
The developers wrote that blockchain technology's sense of digital ownership is founded on "scarcity and exclusion" which "does not reflect Minecraft values of inclusion in the creative process and playing with others." They also noted that third-party NFTs could end up costing players who buy them, as they rely on the creators of blockchain technology "who could vanish without notice."
This actually happened. Blockverse was an NFT project that was supposedly created for Minecraft was a fraud on investors to the amount of $1.2 million. It was offered in NFT forms on OpenSeas and other sites. The project also included a cryptocurrency called $Diamond. The project's creators took all the invested money and shut down the website, Discord and Twitter accounts. This is commonly known as"rug pull "rug pull" and is very frequent in the crypto space.
The Minecraft devs have left the possibility open of potentially including blockchain tech in the future however, they added "we have no plans of adding blockchain technology to Minecraft as of now."

You can expect that those projects that were already working to integrate Minecraft into the blockchain were not wholly enthused by the news. NFT Worlds, a blockchain-based business that allows users to purchase NFTs from digital environments, mostly those found in Minecraft-were hit hard. The company issued a Discord message on its Twitter account declaring that they were trying to find solutions to the Minecraft EULA changes and that they were thinking of pivoting to create their Minecraft-like game platform.

Helen Chiang, the Minecraft studio's head, said to Edge Magazine in a 2019 interview that the average age for Minecraft players was 24. But the game is specifically designed to be child-friendly, Chiang said. For Minecraft players that are older than 10, the ERSB rating is 10 years old or older. A money-making investment strategy built into the client raises a number of red flags. This is particularly relevant when it exposes children to abuse. Chiang has reportedly told Edge that "We should be very transparent and clear about how we intend to make money in the game."
Roblox is another game that is geared towards kids, has embraced monetization and in-game promotions that are geared towards kids. Users are incentivized to spend Roblux on items in the game while exploring worlds designed to promote products from brands like Vans, Nike, and Ralph Lauren. Still, the company behind Roblox updated its community standards last year, taking an approach to the possibility of using NFTs within the game. Users, as they stated are not allowed to make use of Roblox to pay to act as an asset model.
