Minecraft's big Super Duper Graphics Pack is no more after two years of delays. Mojang has cancelled the visual overhaul after deciding that it was "too technical and complex" to implement. The developers "aren't happy" with the performance of the upgrade across different platforms, and decided to axe the project rather than offer inconsistent quality.
The goal of the pack was to allow 4K playback on Xbox One X and to include more sophisticated visual effects such as highlights, atmospheric effects and water.

There is a possibility of an update to the graphics in the future. Mojang said it was "looking at other options" to provide Minecraft an updated look and that it would soon announce details on improving the game's performance for different platforms. While the game won't be relegated to its current look for a long time (however charming it may be) it may take a while before it can keep pace with the latest technology.
