How Do Delta-9 And CBD Differ?

Delta-9 and CBD are both cannabinoids that interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, but they have different effects. Delta-9 is psychoactive, while CBD is not.

In addition to the hundreds of known cannabinoids in cannabis, there are also several hundred terpenes, which contribute to the wide range of aromas and flavors. What is Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 is considered the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, which means that it has a strong influence on a person's mental state. The effects of THC are varied and complex, but most users report feelings of euphoria and relaxation after smoking or ingesting the compound. In addition to producing a high, THC also has some therapeutic properties, such as pain relief and reduced nausea.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is another cannabinoid found in cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce an intoxicating effect. In fact, evidence suggests that CBD counteracts the intoxicating effects of THC at high doses. This makes it an attractive option for people who want to enjoy the benefits of cannabis without getting high or experiencing intoxication.

THC and CBD share many similarities but also have some key differences. They both occur naturally in the cannabis plant and interact with your body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), which regulates sleep, mood, appetite, immune function and other important functions in the body. 

The best way to understand Delta-9 and CBD is to think of them as twins. They look identical at birth, but as they grow up and mature, they become quite different.

To understand how this works, it helps to know how Delta-9 and CBD interact with your body. Both are cannabinoids, which means they interact with your endocannabinoid system (ECS), a vast system of receptors located throughout your body that regulates bodily functions such as sleep, mood, pain and appetite. If your ECS isn't functioning properly due to an injury or chronic illness, these cannabinoids can help regulate those functions by binding to these receptors.

But here's where the two diverge. When Delta-9 binds to ECS receptors in your brain (CB1 receptors), it causes psychoactive effects such as euphoria and hallucinations. When it binds to CB2 receptors in other parts of your body, it can relieve pain or inflammation without causing psychoactive.

The Difference Between CBD and Delta 9

Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis. Delta 9 THC is most often the main focus of research on cannabis because it is the cannabinoid that gets many users high.

Cannabidiol (CBD), on the other hand, is one of over 100 cannabinoids that we know about. It does not get users high and does not appear to have any euphoric effects. Instead, it has a variety of medicinal qualities including anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties. Research has shown CBD to be effective in treating a variety of conditions like epilepsy and arthritis pain.

Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug in the world. In 2008, it was estimated to have been used by over 140 million people globally, around 2.5% of the world's population at the time. A 2011 study conducted by the World Health Organization concluded that cannabis abuse "leads to significant impairments in health and behavioral problems."

Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), also known as dronabinol, is the main psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant. It is one of 483 known compounds in the plant, including at least 65 other cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN) and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV).

Delta-9 THC can be ingested by smoking marijuana or it can be taken by mouth in products such as cooked foods, oils and tablets.

Cannabidiol (CBD) has antiepileptic effects that have been shown in animal models and human trials. CBD does not cause intoxication; marijuana's "high" is caused by delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD has a broad safety profile with dose-dependent adverse effects.

Over the years, cannabis plants have been selectively bred to contain high levels of THC and other compounds that interested parties believed might have medicinal applications. However, the plant's differences in the ratios of THC to CBD have caused significant variances in the effects felt from specific strains or products that contain these substances in different proportions.

Delta-9 and CBD are two major cannabinoids that have been studied for their medical benefits. Both are found in varying levels in marijuana, but their effects on the human body differ greatly.
